On May 9th, the Troop and their families went ocean kayaking in the morning then went down to San Diego to spend the night on the USS Midway.
The day started with getting suited up to go kayaking. After getting our instructions from the guides we headed out to the ocean. The seas were a little rough, a few of us went for unexpected swim, so we didn't get to explore the caves, but we had fun anyway.
Next it was off to the USS Midway. After being divided in to squadrons we were brought to the berthing area to set up our racks. Next we were off to the mess deck for dinner. After dinner we were free to roam the hanger deck and enjoy the displays, we even got to sit in the cockpits of some of the planes. Later we were given a tour of the ship, which included areas not normally open to the general public. Then it was off to bed. Some of the boys and family members had trouble getting in to the racks, they are pretty tight. During the night you could hear people banging their heads if they sat up to fast.
In the morning we were fed breakfast on the mess deck then off to the flight deck to learn about launch and recovery. After taking our gear back to our cars we were allowed back on the ship to spend the day looking about the ship and taking self guided tours.
All in all it was a great weekend and one I'm sure the boys and their families will remember for a long time.
