On June 26th, the boys from Boy Scout Troop 145, Michael, Stephen, Brant, Micah, Chris, Jacob, Brent, and Kyle, went on a summer camping trip to Bass Lake and Yosemite. The Troop arrived at Bass Lake at midday on Friday. After setting up camp the boys enjoyed an afternoon relaxing and playing in the lake. One of the parents brought a boat on the trip so we were able to do some tubing too.
Saturday we set out for Angels Falls. Angeles Falls is on the main river that feeds Bass Lake. There are lots of natural rock slides and pools to swim in. After a short hike up from the lake, about a mile, the boys spent the morning sliding down the falls, swimming in the pools, and relaxing on the rocks. We returned to camp at Spring Cove and had lunch. In the afternoon we rented a banana, a long tube that up to six people can ride and be towed behind the boat. The boys had a blast trying to see who could stay on the longest. They had the maximum amount of fun allowed.
On Sunday we got up early and drove up to Yosemite. We set off from Camp Curry to hike the Mist Trail to the top of Vernal Falls. It was about 3.3 miles from the parking lot to the top of the falls. The trail was pretty steep in some areas; the elevation changed about 1000 feet, with over half of that in the last mile. We have some great hikers in our troop. After hiking back down we went to Cathedral picnic area for lunch and to play in the river. Some of the scouts went up to Glacier Point to enjoy the view of Yosemite Valley while the rest went back to Bass Lake. When the rest returned we had a great dinner, steaks cooked over an open fire, followed by a desert of fruit pies, also cooked over the fire.
